Bio
Dr Simon Wong is the President of Asia-Pacific Metabolic & Bariatric Surgical Society (APMBSS). He is also the Chairman of the Hong Kong Society of Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery (HKSMBS).  He represents Hong Kong at the International Federation of Surgery of Obesity (IFSO) and its Asia-Pacific Chapter. Since 2008, Dr. Wong has been the Consultant Surgeon in Upper Gastrointestinal & Metabolic Surgery Unit of Prince of Wales Hospital, and appointed as the Honorary Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). In 2018, he is appointed as Cluster Team Head of Upper GI Surgery division of New Territories East Cluster and the Deputy Chief of Service of Department of Surgery, Prince of Wales Hospital. 

Dr. Simon Wong graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1991 and received his post-graduate surgical training at the Prince of Wales Hospital.  In 1995, he received his fellowships at the College of Surgeon of Hong Kong and Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh, Scotland.  He became a member of Hong Kong Academy of Medicine in 1999. In the year 2000, he was the visiting scholar at the Royal Brisbane Hospital & Princess Alexandre Hospital in Queensland, Australia.

Dr. Wong’s main clinical and research interests are in the field of bariatric surgery, minimal invasive upper gastrointestinal surgery, and advanced therapeutic endoscopy.  He has published more than 50 articles in local and international journals and has delivered lectures in various conferences around the world. In 2002 Dr. Wong established the first Multidisciplinary Combine Obesity Clinic in Hong Kong and currently in charge of the Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery Service at the Prince of Wales Hospital, CUHK. He is also involved in the training of young surgeons. Dr. Wong was appointed as the editor of the CUHK Jockey Club Minimal Invasive Surgical Skill Center (MISSC) where he is in charge of the Web-based education platform – eSurg (www.esurg.net) which provide various online lectures and surgical videos on various updated minimal invasive surgical techniques.
